20 years for murder

A high court judge has sentenced a local man to 20 years in prison for murdering his colleague in 2010.

Judge Justice Meshack Cheda found Taurai Takavada Mungwami (28) guilty of murder with constructive intent.

Prosecutor Samuel Pedzisai told the court that on March 24, 2010 the deceased, Rangarirai Makore, was drinking beer with Clemence Makore, Godfrey Mangoma, Solomon Gozho and Godfrey Machingura at Mpambadzire night club.Mungwami confronted the now deceased and accused him of trying to court his girlfriend, Winnet Chirasha.

A misunderstanding arose between the two and they started fighting. The deceased’s colleagues joined and then Mungwani produced a knife and stabbed Makore to death.

“You were carrying a knife to a bar and also smoking dagga. This shows that you were looking for trouble and you should be incarceratedfor a long period of time so that you are removed from society to reform,” said Justice Cheda.
