Chinaka replaces the late Bornwell Chakaodza, former Editor of the Standard and the Herald newspapers.
In a statement, VMCZ said they were happy that the top media practitioner had finally been recognised for his sterling work in advancing the local media.
Chinaka has worked for Zimbabwe Inter Africa News Agency, in addition to roaming media consultancy.
During his days at the news agency, it was at one time voted the best news agency in Africa.
The agency was then led by Farai Munyuki as Editor-in-Chief and Wilf Mbanga as Home Editor.
The VMCZ Board said the appointment of Chinaka to the position of Deputy Chairperson was with effect from 22 June 2012.
"Chinaka replaces the late Bornwell Chakaodza who served in that capacity before his death in February this year. Chinaka will be in this position until the next VMCZ Annual General Meeting (AGM) scheduled for later this year," the VMCZ said.
Chinaka sits on the VMCZ training committee.
"The VMCZ Board congratulates Cris Chinaka on his appointment and urges all members to assist him in executing his duties in the new position," the VMCZ said in its statement.
Other media representatives on the VMCZ board are senior journalists Edna Machirori, Tapfuma Machakaire, Davison Maruziva and Tawanda Majoni.Post published in: News
