Festival celebrates the artists with disabilities

St Giles Special School will host a Special Schools Arts Festival on June 8 to focus on the rights of children with disabilities, and society’s duty to protect, respect and promote their aspirations.

The theme will be communicated through music, poetry, traditional dance, drawings and crafts. The main attraction is the acclaimed Stitches Mbira Band who have graced numerous platforms including HIFA and the Zimbabwe Youth Festival. Munyaradzi Munodawafa will also perform.

Invited Schools include Jairos Jiri from Harare and Kadoma, ZIMCARE Trust School, Murewa High School Resource Unit for the Blind, Bulawayo-based Liyana Band plus many others.

“This initiative comes ahead of this year’s commemorations of the International Day of the African Child and we expect the festival to facilitate and promote the recognition of African children with disabilities through the arts,” said Ticha Muzavazi, a music teacher at St Giles.
