Intra-party violence trial begins

The trial of MDC-T activists accused of participating in the Two Boy Shopping Centre intra-party violence, commenced at the magistrate’s court here last Tuesday.

The high profile trial dubbed ‘Nyandoro and 13 others,’ started with three state witnesses, Pinnel Denga (MDC-T Mbare Member of Parliament and party Mashonaland East Provincial Chairperson), Jowa (Party Provincial Secretary) and a woman identified as Maziyise testifying under oath. Marondera Town Mayor, Farai Nyandoro and councilor Carlos Mudzongo were among the accused.

“The fight turned into a free for all scuffle and it was difficult to point out the trouble causers,” Maziyise.

Denga was severely beaten and denied taking a punishable role in the brawl, despite having later paid a $20 police admission of guilt fine for running over a party youth with his car.

Nyandoro and other accused deny the charges. The trial continues with the remaining two state witnesses expected to give testimony under oath.
