Lawyer threatens protest

A Human Rights Lawyer representing MDC-T security officers has threatened to stage a one-man demonstration against the ‘selected’ application of justice by the police.

The lawyer, Mandebele, representing Kenneth Jack and William Makonese, told the magistrates court this week that if the two Zanu (PF) youths who assaulted his clients are not dragged before the courts, he would have no option but to express his concern through a demonstration.

“My clients were provoked and later assaulted by identified Zanu (PF) youths at the Dombotombo-Mrewa turn off June 8. They reported the assault the following day. After realizing that MDC had made a police report, the Zanu (PF) youths proceeded to make a counter police report claiming that they were actually the victims.

Instead of arresting the Zanu (PF) youths for the crime, my MDC clients were arrested and detained in police custody for four days,” the lawyer said.

He concluded by saying that he would not stop until the police brought the Zanu (PF) youths to book.
