Mutambara ousted

The High Court in Harare has ruled in favour of Welshman Ncube as the democratically elected leader of the MDC against Professor Arthur Mutambara who is fighting for control of the party.

High Court Judge Barret Patel ruled Tuesday that the MDC congress of January 7-9 2011 which elected the incumbent leadership was legitimate, thereby throwing Mutambara’s political future into disarray.

Mutambara and 13 other rebels from the smaller faction of the MDC, including former chairman Joubert Mudzume have been fighting in the courts for the control of the MDC.

Last year, the Bulawayo High Court also ruled in favour of Ncube but Mutambara appealed against the ruling.

But the challenge for Ncube is whether President Robert Mugabe will appoint him as the Deputy Prime Minister because the President has resisted attempts to remove Mutambara.
