He was speaking on behalf of Didymus Mutasa, the Zanu (PF) secretary for administration, during celebrations to mark the appointment of Monica Mutsvangwa as Deputy Minister of Labour and Social Services.
He irked the students, who had been forced to abandon their studies to attend the celebrations, when he chanted party slogans.
“When Charumbira took to the podium, he did not realise that the students were angry at the fact that they had been forced to attend the meeting. Some students had to abandon their mid-year studies to attend the meeting. They booed him when he started chanting the slogans,’’ said a source who was present.
Some students walked out of the meeting when Charumbira started attacking white people and imploring the students to support Zanu (PF). He also thanked President Robert Mugabe for his “leadership qualities” and choice in selecting ministers who “work for the people.”
Scores of Zanu (PF) supporters bussed from mainly timber estates and resettlement areas also attended the celebrations where five beasts were slaughtered to feed the revelers.
Teachers, parents and authorities at the United Baptist Church school, where the celebrations took place, have clashed with the Zanu (PF) over the use of the premises for political purposes.Post published in: News
