Warriors woes mount as they drop places

Perennial underachievers, Zimbabwe, have slid further down the international football rankings following a difficult past few months.

According to the latest FIFA/ Coca Cola rankings table released from Zurich on Wednesday, Switzerland, the Warriors, as the team is known, dropped two places down the ladder to 106th in the 206-nation table.

Zimbabwe now occupies 26th position out of 53 teams in the continent.

The setback comes days after Rahman Gumbo’s charges opened the World Cup 2014 qualifying campaign won a disappointing note.

The team lost 0-1 at home to Giunea to jeorpadise the prospects of making an appearance in the world’s biggest football tournament.

The news could not have come at a worse time for Zimbabwe, who play neighbours Mozambique in its next World Cup 2014 qualifiers.

At its peak in the 1990s, the team was ranked in the top 40 in the world.

Loss of form and maladministration have led to the team’s freefall in the table.
