Efforts to establish a political, economic or social future for a woman is almost impossible due to the challenges and obstacles encountered by women/girl-child ranging from cultural to social bottlenecks. In some situations societal or environmental stigmatization portrays the greatest threat.
The Women Advancement forum will host a gathering here in September of key women in Africa to discuss critical areas.
These include:
1. Minimising poverty and hunger in developing nations(Africa);
2. Education for all irrespective of gender
3. Promotion of gender equality and empowerment of women;
4. Reduction of child mortality and improving maternal health
6. Combat HIV / AIDS, malaria, TB and other diseases;
7. Sustainability of the environment
8.Creating networking opportunities for global partnerships and sustainable development
9. Encouraging Micro financing – a sure way of economic empowerment for women
Working from the premise that many women – be they in politics, business, self-employment, or the wife of a political/public office holder – wish for a more fulfilling role in society, the environment, office or government. But their dreams are stifled by a raft of challenges ranged against women.
Confirmed speakers include: President UN Women, Canada National Committee and Peace Ambassador, Ms Almas Jiwani, National Women Leader, Action Congress Party, Nigeria, Hajia Hafsat, Mohammed Baba, Mrs. Rukia Isanga, Minister of State for Gender Affairs, Uganda, Mrs. Madelein Mkunu, Founder, Leading Women of Africa, Dr. Oley Njie, President, Gambian Women Finance Association, Ms. Grace Matalhape, CEO, Love Life South Africa, Tjipo Tshaka. Zimbabwean speakers are still to be identified.
