The local councillor, Passmore Mangwiro, told The Zimbabwean that villagers buried their conflicting political affiliations and teamed up to make construction of the bridge a success.
“Murewa Rural District Council donated 120 bags of cement towards the project. The District Development Fund provided of expertise and other logistical needs. The project is expected to be finished before the rainy season around October,” said Mangwiro.
“The old bridge was so low that during rainy seasons children could not attend schools across the bridge either at Chizanga or Maruta. This contributed heavily towards school absenteeism by children during the third term of the year when the area experiences incessant rain fall.”
