The award-winning activist told The Zimbabwean from her base that well-wishers had volunteered to meet the costs of the training and that the selection process would be apolitical and transparent.
“To make the girls’ selection fair, I will divide Zimbabwe into the old five provinces, namely Matabeleland, Mashonaland, Manicaland, Midlands and Masvingo,” she added.
To qualify, the girls must be doing Mathematics and Physics at Advanced Level and they should excel in these subjects. A non-governmental organisation, Afrobizsense Zimbabwe, will manage the selection process.
Concern has previously been raised at the low number of females in the country’s aviation industry. But under-representation of women is not limited to aviation, as almost every other industry is dominated by men.
Most companies, institutions, government departments, leadership positions and political appointments are headed by men.
