Desperate Thandeka sends out SOS

A South African-based Zimbabwean teenager, Thandeka Dube ( 19), who passed matriculation with several distinctions has no money to further her studies.

Thandeka is appealing to individuals and companies that can help her carry on with her studies. She holds a one-year study permit.

She left Zimbabwe three years ago as the economy deteriorated and the education sector was experiencing excruciating problems, with teachers withdrawing their services due to poor salaries.

Thandeka decided to join other youths and crossed the infested Limpopo River and ended up in Malvern in Johannesburg where she is staying with her sister, Patience Mthunzi, who is unemployed and therefore cannot afford school fees.

Thandeka told The Zimbabwean that she hopes to study for a medical qualification which she has always dreamt of. ‘‘Once I finish my studies, I intend to give back to the community, as a token of appreciation to those that would have helped me continue with my education,’’ she said.

Her parents live in Bulawayo and are also unemployed. In 2009 she started Grade 11 at Basa Tutorial Institute in Johannesburg where she also completed her matriculation in 2010, passing eight subjects with five distinctions.

Thandeka intends to carry out her studies in South Africa but she is ready to do so anywhere else in the world. She can be contacted on 011 -615 0018/0720 528291/073 60 7050 or on email jmthunzi6@gmail.com
