Diaspora to welcome Team Zimbabwe

The Zimbabwe Diaspora Olympics Support Network, chaired by Dr Knox Chitiyo, will today host a free event for all Zimbabweans and their friends to welcome Team Zimbabwe to the diaspora capital. To be held near the Olympic Park at Stratford Old Town Hall, the event will give fellow-countrymen an opportunity to meet and greet their Olympians, past and present, prior to the official start of the Games on Friday.

Zimbabwe’s 2012 Olympic competitors are: Sharon Tawenga (marathon); Wirimai Zhuwawo (marathon); Cuthbert Nyasango (marathon); Chris Felgate (triathlon); Jamie Frazier Mackenzie (Rowing): Micheen Thornycroft (rowing): and Kirsty Coventry (swimming).

The Stratford programme includes a variety of events including presentations, entertainment and other activities. The evening will be an opportunity to show support for Team Zimbabwe as our Olympians go for gold. It is also an opportunity to build a lasting legacy of partnership between Zimbabwe’s sportspersons and the Zimbabwean diaspora community. Registration will be on a first come, first served basis.
