This was the beginning of a journey that might propel Zimbabwe to the top of the international film industry. Tafirenyika, who wrote the film, also stars as Coaster, the lead male character, alongside South African Lillian Tshabalala. “It did not just happen. Like everyone else, you begin something with doubts,” Visser said. “The first time I worked with the Zimbabwean guys, I had met Spiwe and Melgin in Pretoria and I found them to be very good and interesting people, so we became friends.
“Melgin was always smiling, and I trained him as an actor in one of my productions. He had a role in a Grahamstown National Arts Festival play called ‘Evil Runs’ and in my short film ‘Twist’. For three years, he would tell me about this story he wanted to write and ask me about how to go about and I gave him directions. I could see the energy and was eager to learn,” he added. Draft by draft, the play was written, with Visser giving directions and corrections to Tafirenyika.
“I will marry myself” is a fascinating story about an African girl who was so desperate for marriage that she ended up paying for her own bride price in order to fulfil her dream of being a wife.

A Great film indeed, I just saw the trailer, can’t wait for the 17 Nov to watch the full movie. Thumbs up to mr Stephen Visser and the mr Melgin Tafirenyika.
