Is this what we fought for?

EDITOR - Please allow me space in your paper to express my utter dismay at what is taking place in an area called Pfungwe in Murehwa.

Earlier this year a Chinese company started mining gold here. Previously, though illegally, a lot of people from this area had been mining gold and sustaining their families from their efforts. The arrival of the afore-mentioned Chinese company saw the prohibition of locals from any mining activities. As a result, many families who had been solely dependent on gold mining for income are suffering from untold impoverishment.

Locals from this area are not benefiting in any way from the mining exercise being undertaken by this Chinese company. Is this what our liberation heroes fought for? Did they fight for us to reclaim land and mining areas from a white minority only to hand it to the Chinese? I would like to call on the minister of Indigenization to do something about what is going on in Pfungwe. – Miriam Moyo, by e-mail
