Movie debut for Mutare

Mutare will early next year witness the production of its debut movie called “Stigma” that was shot in the city recently, directed by veteran artist, Keaven Smomondo, and written by UK based producer, Bruce Mubayiwa.

The cameras were set in motion on 31 May for a period of two weeks, featuring scenes from Mutare and Rusape. “The industry we want to penetrate is dominated by Nigerian and South African movies so we want to come up with a production that competes with these movies,” he added.

“Stigma” is a touching story of a sexually and emotionally abused woman, Anna, played by Faustine Guruve. It features a cast of 13 actors, including Ambrose Maropa (Uncle) who is the director of Yambiro Theatre Production, Maria Sekiwe (Auntie) also from Yambiro, Zizwe Sibanda and female Jazz musician, Tendai Luwisi.
