Projects included servicing of the Musami-Ngoma-Moya road, provision of computers and printers to Mhembere and Chikupo Primary Schools, an electricity generator and printer at Chemhondoro Schools, toilets constructed at Zhakata Primary School, a new block of classrooms at Chanetsa Secondary School and electrical installation tubing at Munamba Secondary School.
Nezi channelled part of the funds towards construction of Shamu and Chidiya clinics. The two clinics were left near completion as the funds ran out.
The Personal Secretary and Projects Coordinator for Nezi, Peter Chapfika, told The Zimbabwean: “The funds were also used to rehabilitate old boreholes across the constituency. New boreholes were also sited and will be drilled when additional funds are available.”
He said assistance from the donor community would help speed up completion of projects initiated under CDF. However, these were not carried out without challenges.”Zanu (PF) thugs identified by villagers as Nicholas Chakawarika, Ward Councillor Chirenda and More, were seen vandalising CDF boreholes at Zvareva Village. Zanu (PF) does not want to see MDC initiated developmental projects succeeding in the constituency. The thugs failed to differentiate government projects from MDC sponsored schemes. They should be educated that CDF projects were as a result of government intervention to develop political constituencies across the country,” said Chapfika.
Government launched the CDF Audit Team following reports that some MPs diverted the funds to personal use. Some legislators were briefly arrested for misuse of the funds and later released after Attorney General, Johannes Tomana, refused to proceed with the prosecution before other MP’s projects are audited.
