Party paper on brink of collapse

The Zanu (PF) propaganda piece, The People’s Voice, is on the ropes with reports that contestants for the Presidency are withholding finances.

“The paper has been surviving on financial handouts from some party bigwigs (names withheld),” said a source, who also mentioned a prominent figure in the banking sector who in the past has been accused of oiling the Zanu (PF) machinery by using depositors money.

The highly placed source said the three named individuals belong to a camp that is disgruntled with goings on in the party and are deliberately withholding funding.

The party’s spokesman, Rugare Gumbo, shot down the reports. “Those are lies. The paper is on sound footing and everything is fine, divisions in the party have nothing to do with publication of the paper. Our workers are happy,” he told The Zimbabwean.

Journalists interviewed, who cannot be identified for obvious reasons, said they had not been paid for several months, adding that when they do get paid, they take home a paltry $170 per month.
