The Centre for Community Development Zimbabwe has launched nationwide workshops to share ideas with the electorate on how best to ensure the coming elections reflect the free choice of the people.

Last week, the NGO conducted a five day workshop for participants across the political divide.

Local programme coordinator Samuel Kamundarira said the workshops encouraged free discussion about how best political violence could be avoided during political campaigns ahead of elections.

“We help to form peace committees in each ward to manage political violence on site. Youths are encouraged to form voter clubs, through which they would spread the gospel about the importance of voter registration among their peers. They are also educated on the need to be politically tolerant,” said Kamundarira.

Some members of the War Collaborators Association and Zanu (PF) youths, made unsuccessful attempts to bulldoze their way into the programme but were stopped by officers from Police Internal Security Intelligence.
