Zimbabwean writers Farayi Chikowore and Bart Wolfe, and mbira musician Takudzwa Mukiwa will all perform at the “Exiled Literature” event at the Poetry Cafe, 22 Betterton Street, London, WC2H 9BX.
Chikowore in an asylum seeker in the UK after being severely beaten under the Mugabe regime, and writes poetry in English, while Wolfe is a Zimbabwean wordsmith and playwright whose plays have toured the UK several times.
Mbira player Mukiwa’s music draws on the traditional Shona repertoire with added modern lyrics that run commentary to some of the issues affecting Zimbabweans both at home and abroad.
Also presenting work at the event will be Ugandan writer Jade Amoli-Jackson and Amanda Epe, who writes poetry and short stories on themes such as gender, ethnicity and spirituality set in the Niger delta.
“Exiled Literature” costs £4 and will be hosted by poet Handsen Chikowore, and Hasani Hasani; doors open at 7.30.
