Although no official confirmation could be obtained from the club various sources have revealed that Gumbo’s assistant, Tendai Chikuni has been made interim coach and will be in charge of the team against Hardbody on Wednesday.

Relations between Gumbo and the cash rich Zvishavane side worsened over the weekend after the big spending club was surprisingly beaten 2-0 by Monomotapa in a Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match at Gwanzura Stadium.

Word that Gumbo was on his way out of FC Platinum started spreading soon after the club was hammered 3-0 at home by Highlanders.

Gumbo was at the beginning of the season given an open cheque to acquire new players of his liking with the goal being the league title but events on the ground have been that Platinum were falling far way behind their intended target.

FC Platinum who have played a game more than league leaders Highlanders trail the Bulawayo giants by four points. Highlanders have 25 points from 12 games while Platinum have 21 points from 12 points.

In between Bosso and the miners are FC Platinum’s bitter rivals Shabanie Mine on 22 points.

Gumbo took over Kugona Kunenge Kudada following the death of Benjamin Moyo but could not win the league title for Platinum after losing out to Dynamos on goal difference on the last day of the season.

FC Platinum also faced an early exit from the Caf Champions League when they were knocked out in the first round by El Merreikh of Sudan. The Zimbabweans were humiliated 3-0 in Khartoum having played a 2-2 draw at Rufaro Stadium.

Gumbo, though, still has his job of Warriors coach in which many have been advocating for a coach to be appointed on full time basis.
