The constituency is currently represented by local MDC-T businessman Rodrick Rutsvara, but sources told The Zimbabwean that four of the seven MDC wards are disgruntled by his failure to develop the constituency and want Zvidzai, former Executive Mayor of Gweru, to replace him.
“Rutsvara has not been visible here. Even how he has used the CDF fund is still mystery to most of us. Therefore the people want Zvidzayi back,” said the source.
During the 2008 polls, Zvidzai contested for the Chiundura parliamentary seat and lost to Zanu (PF)’s Kizitho Chivamba by 12 votes. Asked to comment Zvidzayi would only say: “One thing you cannot do is to oppose the people’s power. If the people say they want to put me in front, who am I to refuse?”
Rutsvara is unfazed by the development.‘‘Of course, I can’t say I am 100 % and people are free to make their own assessment of me. This is what happens in politics but whoever is fighting me should wait for elections rather rush to the media. You should come to my constituency and rate me on what you observe,’’ he said.
