Shadreck Rukweza, editor and producer of the film, told The Zimbabwean that the filmmakers hope to raise awareness about some of the struggles of immigrant life.
“I think having left your family in Zimbabwe, trying to make new friends and companions over here or work after work can make life a bit miserable. That’s why people end up engaging in adulterous affairs because of the loneliness they experience here in the UK. Adopting the culture and manners is another difficulty of an immigrant,” Rukweza said.
With outstanding performances from Susan and Happy Manyewere, Mazimba 2 tries to tell the story of the diaspora. What happens to old friends and loves? What happens when someone moves to a new country and community? How does migration affect the whole family? Mazimba 2 explores all these questions, and many more.
Acted in both Shona and English, and with English subtitles, “Mazimba 2 Jambanja mu UK” will be released on DVD and Blu-ray by the end of August. Plans are in the pipeline for a Mazimba 3, but nothing is confirmed yet. – See trailer: youtube.com/watch?v=SOa4iat60ts
