Zanu-PF, CIO's disrupt peace building meeting

State security agents and Zanu (PF) activists yesterday (Wednesday) disrupted a peace building meeting at Nyamhara Primary School in Gokwe North after condemning it as illegal and unsanctioned.

The peace building meeting attended by villagers and community leaders of the area was organised by the Centre for Community Development in Zimbabwe (CCDZ), a human rights organisation.

According to George Makoni, the CCDZ information officer, CIO’s and Zanu-PF activists said the peace building meeting was illegal as it was not sanctioned by the Organ of National Healing and Reconciliation.

Makoni said the CIO’s and Zanu-PF activists after calling off the meeting later told villagers not to associate themselves with regime change Non Governmental Organisations (NGO’s).

“Community residents who had turned up for the meeting were told to go back home and not to associate with "regime change NGOs".

“The ZANU PF activists interrogated the CCDZ programme officers Tinashe Chatira, Vellim Nyama, Tsungai Vere and George Makoni and they recorded the full names, district of origin, national identity registration numbers of the CCDZ employees,” Makoni said.

“The CIOs also wanted to know the source of funding for the Peace-building project and why CCDZ did not have a clearance letter from the Organ on National Healing and Reconciliation or the Midlands governor to conduct the programme in Gokwe.”
