Zim play in SA schools

Talented Zimbabwean protest poet and theatre director, Bongani Ncube, has written an educational play that has been recommended for use in schools in Gauteng.

The eight-character play “Ubani is’khokho?” literally meaning, “Who is the boss?”, warns young people about the danger of neglecting their studies.

It features Thabo, a mischievous bully who spends his time drinking and Sandile, his classmate who focuses on his studies and ends up becoming a prosecutor.

“Our aim is to teach young people about the dangers of trying to cut corners in life,” said Ncube.

The play is directed by Mothusi Bashimane Ndlovu and has already appealed to a number of schools.

“We are in the process of arranging some performances in the schools. Our focus will be mainly on secondary schools, where most of the things shown in the play are commonplace. We are also looking for sponsors who will help us showcase the play in Zimbabwe and other regional countries,” added the Ithemba Lesizwe Performing Arts director.
