‘Avenging spirit’ causes havoc

The suspected avenging spirit of MDC-T councilor Aluis Chandisarewa Sangare, of Ward 16 here, who was murdered by suspected Zanu (PF) thugs in 2007, is causing untold trouble to families of his assassins.

Sources close to the affected families told The Zimbabwean that members from families which murdered Sangare because of his political beliefs were perishing mysteriously. Some have reportedly lost their sanity.

“Sangare’s dead body was discovered in his house at Chinake Village, with a woman’s inner garment (petticoat) stuffed in the mouth. His hands were tied with a rope,” said a villager privy to the events. They believe Sangare’s avenging spirit has arisen to mete out justice.

“We are disappointed to see perpetrators of violence, including murder, still roaming scot-free. Avenging spirits should bring justice as the state apparatus responsible for punishing offenders has failed to fulfill its constitutional mandate,” said an elderly villager.

Recently, parties in the GNU connived not to punish perpetrators of violence who committed genocide and other forms of crimes against humanity prior to formation of the inclusive government in 2009. The ‘Paper Tiger’ Human Rights Commission will only investigate crimes against humanity committed after 2009. This let off the hook thousands of known Zanu (PF) thugs and some state security agents who shed innocent blood and destroyed property.
