Ingwe and Pension are two of the farms belonging to the council where cattle are being lost to thieves because of poor security measures. One of the farm workers who cannot be named said the lack of a precast wall and proper demarcation of paddocks were to blame.
“Cattle rustlers take advantage of the state of the security fence while the pastures are not adequately protected from fires started by trespassers from Budiriro and Glen View suburbs,” said the worker.
Council Business Committee Chairperson, Thomas Muzuva, said the city was working on a tender to get a partner to commercialise the farms.
“We were just keeping the farms, but we now want to do it commercially and we will run a tender. Currently, we are losing half of the water meant for the cattle to leakages. We intend to solve that problem soon but major developments will be looked into once the tender goes through,” said Muzuva.
