He added that NMMZ needed more than $50,000 to completely restore the monuments. The monuments are attributed to the Kalanga Torwa state and are thought to date from the seventeenth century. The site is highly decorated and features designs of the Zimbabwean architectural tradition.

Heritage site restored
The National Museums and Monuments of Zimbabwe has embarked on the restoration of the Nalatale Cultural Heritage Site which has been neglected for years. A NMMZ official told the Zimbabwean that the site, one of the country’s ancient and most treasured monuments, has been identified as one of the 67 threatened heritage sites that need funding for restoration under the 2012 world monuments watch. “We have mobilised some funds to restore the monuments,” said the official.
