“The cast, of whom 16 are Zimbabweans, is busy with rehearsals while shooting is scheduled for October,” Jonas said.
The movie is about the tribulations of Beya, a victim of rape who wants to use her role to highlight the prevalence this issue and urge women that have suffered the ordeal to come out and find closure.
Now in her mid-20s, she first suffered the ordeal at the hands of her two half-brothers at the age of eight. She reported the issue to her parents but they could only scoff at her allegations.
When she was 12, her parents separated, and she had to move with her mother to her maternal grandfather’s home, where she suffered further abuse.
Jonas fled Zimbabwe about a decade ago after his play, Bob the Devilish, which highlighted the worsening human rights in his country under the leadership of Robert Mugabe, incurred the wrath of Zanu (PF) supporters. He has not produced anything since 2010 when the production of a 30 million-Pula movie was hijacked by a fellow director in Botswana.
