Mugazambi was involved in a freak accident while travelling from Chinhoyi with Zimbabwe Tourism Authority chief executive officer, Karikoga Kaseke, in August 2010.
The car, driven by Kaseke, reportedly burst a tyre and rolled several times. Mugazambi suffered injuries to her back, neck and fingers. She has still not yet fully recovered.
Now employed by the ZTA, she said the accident affected her career. “l had a neck operation in September 2010 but up to now my health has not improved. My face is no longer as smooth as it used to be. l cannot go for photo shoots with these scars. Who would want an ambassador in that kind of state?” she asked, her face contorted with pain.
She has also gained weight as she has been unable to go to the gym. “I am not doing anything at the moment. I am concentrating on getting well. I am also settling into my new home because l got married recently,” said Mugazambi.
The patron of Miss Zimbabwe Trust, Kiki Divaris, said the security and health of models should be a priority but, in Zimbabwe, it was not considered essential. “The modelling industry is still growing and we have not reached a level where we can take care of the girls’ health and security, we rely mostly on sponsors,” she said.
