Mukahlela works for Midlands unity

The embattled former Gweru Urban Member of Parliament for MDC-T, Timothy Mukahlela, has been working tirelessly to unify the Midlands province after factionalism almost tore it apart.

Despite in-fighting and back-biting among his fellow politicians, Mukahlela, in his role as the Midlands representative on the party’s national executive council, has put aside all differences and his personal reputation to focus on re-unification, says provincial information and publicity secretary James Tsuro.

“Before his election into the party leadership, structures across the board were marred by shocking levels of division, name calling and factionalism. But Mukahlela has shown great humility and wisdom to unite 13 out of 14 districts in the Midlands South,” said Tsuro.

Other party leaders confirmed that Mukahlela, who is a prominent businessman in his own right, had managed to extinguish the flames of factionalism and curbed abusive elements within the party’s provincial structures, which they said were set ablaze during the party’s national congress held in Bulawayo two years ago.

“Factionalism in Midlands is now a thing of the past. Yes, Mukahlela to a certain extent has played a unifying role, but to be frank the current prevailing unity of purpose was brought about by collective effort from the entire provincial leadership. As you know it is a relay, and a relay is won by the whole team and not by the last runner,” said Midlands South chairperson Lillian Timvos.

She appealed to journalists to report fairly, saying no amount of force would divide the province again. “It is unfortunate that some journalists are not well informed about the new developments. They should keep abreast of these and inform people accurately and without bias,” said Timvos.

Mukahlela was voted in February this year to replace the prominent academic, MDC-T secretary for economic affairs Mufandaedza Hove, who collapsed at a rally in Mkoba last year and later died at a local hospital.
