Prepare for elections: MP Jiri

MDC-T Member of Parliament Chikomba Central, Moses Jiri, has called on party supporters to prepare for elections, as the constitution making process nears completion.

MP Moses Jiri is confident that MDC will unite when it matters the most.

Addressing mourners at a recent memorial service at Unyetu Village, Jiri described the current discord between Zanu (PF) and the two MDC formations regarding the constitutional process as a “bubble in the sea”.

“People will drag Zanu (PF) to the referendum kicking, regardless of the huge volumes of noise the former ruling party may make. You should not lose sight of the coming elections as Zanu (PF) makes unnecessary noise to redeem some semblance of its lost political significance. This is politics and Zanu (PF) is only buying time.”

While the two MDCs have endorsed the draft constitution, Zanu (PF) is not happy with some provisions in the charter and is insisting on re-negotiating some clauses. Jiri said MDC-T would increase its winning margin in Chikomba District, as war veterans and other new farmers in the area were turning to his party. He warned MDC-T against vote splitting.

“I hope as a party we have learnt from experience that vote splitting costs us valuable constituencies. By the end of the coming elections, Zanu (PF) will be history.” Villagers across Chikomba Central concurred with Jiri. “Here we only know one political party worth talking about. It has since become an embarrassment to discuss Zanu (PF) politics in public. There is nothing left of the former ruling party to talk about. MDC is the only project in town,” said Ward 14 MDC-T Councillor, Newton Makumbe.
