More than 150 international players are sweating it out against locals in the weeklong showpiece. Tournament Director, Cliff Nhokwara, described the meet as the highest level juniors’ competition the country has held in years.
“Our players face tough challenges, but that is still a good experience we hope will help improve their game,” he said.
The junior circuit is an ITF Grade Four ranking competition. Competitors are awarded points that will boost their position on the world rankings. “Hosting the tournament is not only a great advantage to the players, but will also boost the country’s image. It will prove that we have the ability to stage such tournaments and hopefully pave our way to hosting future events.”
Continental opponents represented include South Africa, Botswana, India and Namibia. Zimbabweans battling it out include top seed, Tendai Tapfuma, Ronzai Saurombe, Courtney Lock, Rufaro Chirehwa and Vimbai Ugaro.
