PSL round up

Heading for the wire? Well that’s what it looks like. The 2012 Castle Lager Premiership race looks billed for a photo-finish, with defending champions, Dynamos, fast closing the gap on log leaders Highlanders.

Bosso keep extending their records of a lose-less streak, but with the Bulawayo giants now seemingly content on that record alone, have sometimes become ultra-defensive and forgotten that they need to score goals.

Some of their draws have been more of two points lost than one gained – especially the 0-0 stalemate away to Harare City at the weekend, the second against the league debutants, who also held Bosso in the reverse fixture at Barbourfields.

Another Harare-based side, Monomotapa, have also emerged as dark horses in the title race.

As Bosso went 19 games unbeaten, Dynamos beat Caps United 3-0 in an exciting Harare derby, to complete a double over the green machine tasting their seventh defeat of the season.

The recent result will definitely further disturb morale in the Makepekepe camp, which the team’s directors had tried to boost by taking all players for lunch at a 5-star hotel on the eve of the derby. First to show such signs were the team’s Bulawayo chapter of supporters, who approached director Twine Phiri for an explanation on the team’s series of bad results.

Dembare’s victory drew the side to within six points of Bosso, but the Haraere giants have two games in hand – a replay against Hwange and an outstanding fixture against FC Platinum.

Should the DeMbare win both matches, they will go neck on neck with Highlanders, who have a superior goal difference. If that point is reached, then the search for the champion will have been thrown wide open.

Monomotapa’s 3-0 victory over FC Platinum put them within shouting distance team in for the championship race.

Chicken Inn and Shabanie, tied on fourth position, are also equal contenders of the title.
