Runaway rapist charged

A rape suspect who escaped from lawful custody at the Murehwa Magistrates’ Court has been sentenced to three years in prison. The man, whose identity could not be disclosed, had been remanded in custody after appearing in court facing charges of raping his 13-year-old niece. The man escaped from court after the magistrate revoked his bail at the close of the State’s case. In passing sentence, Magistrate Noel Mupeyiwa said the man undermined the courts of law.
