Soldiers terrorise villagers

Soldiers in Mudzi are reportedly terrorizing MDC-T activists who attended the burial of the MDC-T activist Cephas Magura who died in June following political violence.

One of the victims, Beula Mberundu, has vacated her house because of the threats she received from soldiers she identified as Givemore Mutize and his brother. “These soldiers stayed at my house as lodgers and that’s how they knew about my visit to Maguras burial. They threatened to leave my house and then they began visiting my house in groups,” she said.

Mberundu said she reported the case to Mutoko Police Station and the case was recorded under docket number RRB 126642 but no action against the culprits had been taken. She said the soldiers tried to force her to withdraw the case.

Mashonaland East provincial chairperson Piniel Denga confirmed that the soldiers were terrorizing villagers who attended Magura’s burial. Contacted for comment Army Spokesperson Alphios Makotore demanded questions in writing.

“We don’t make comments over the phone. Put them in writing but as of now my email address is not working, so bring them in person,” he said.
