Thorncroft crashes out of Olympics

Women’s singles sculls rower Micheen Thorncroft has crashed out of the 2012 London Olympic Games after finishing fourth in her heat, missing out of the quarter finals of the global sport extravaganza.

Thorncroft had started off brightly and at one time occupied third position the last qualifying place but fizzled out and missed out of a semi final place.

Thorncroft had done well to reach the quarter finals after her time of seven minutes, 47.10 seconds gave her a quarter final place.

She, however, could not match her heat time but fell to seven minutes, 56.66 seconds in the quarter finals for elimination from the competition.

Zhang Xiuyun of China took the first semi final qualifying spot after recording seven minutes and 39.58seconds while in second place was Julia Levina of Russia who clocked seven minutes and 41.28 seconds while Donata of Lithuania took the third qualifying place with a time of seven minutes, and 45.68 seconds.

Thorncroft, however, will have to reflect on her not disgraceful performance this time around and build on that ahead of the next Olympics in four years time.
