Clyford Zifungo, 35, and Ruth Muyambo, 29, were found dead in their flatlet recently. They were the only people in the building at the time and there was no break-in.
Muizenberg police spokesperson Captain Stephen Knapp confirmed a case of murder was being investigated. He could not confirm how the couple died or whether foul play was suspected. An inquest docket has been opened to investigate the circumstances surrounding the deaths. Knapp says the autopsy results have not yet been released.
“Everyone feels like they have lost a friend,” said Antonia Labia Hardres-Williams. “They were very, very much loved. They really do leave a huge gap.”
The young couple’s 18-month-old son, Merlin Gareth, lives in Zimbabwe with his grandmother.
A memorial service was held and the Hardres-Williams family assisted with the repatriation of the bodies to Zimbabwe. Anyone wanting to help the little boy can email him at gareth@casalabia.co.za.
