Zanu (PF) makes MP’s life tough

Zanu (PF) officials vowed not to recognize the political ward councillorship of elected MDC-T policy maker, Newton Makumbe, of ward 14 Lancshire, Chikomba Central. “The Zanu (PF) intolerance led to my unjustified four day detention at Chivhu Police Station last May,” said Makumbe. “Zanu (PF) members led by Richard Mutemwa made a false report to the police that I had misused funds allocated by the district administrator for Independence Celebrations. I was subsequently arrested

According to Makumbe, the Zanu (PF) members imposed themselves on the people as community development leaders. This resulted in discord regarding implementation of donor funded projects and distribution of relief food.

“Just last week, the die hard Zanu (PF) elements disrupted the smooth flow of GMB relief food distribution, as they bussed in party youths from elsewhere to benefit from the project at the expense of deserving villagers,” he said. Oxfam-funded projects at Lancashire and Murezi clinics are reportedly progressing at a snail’s pace due to the sidelining of the legitimate councilor, Makumbe, by the programme invaders.

“Zanu (PF) has been stalling the work here as the program was regarded as MDC. Imagine village workers being barred from serving their communities as a result of political intolerance by agents of doom,” said a villager who chose to remain anonymous.

The accused Zanu (PF) members could not be reached for comment. Chikomba council is composed of 18 elected MDC-T councilors against Zanu (PF)’s 12. They are drawn from Chikomba East, West and Central.
