Artist on family matters

2010 National Arts Merit Awards winner Godwell Mkandla will next week set up a month-long exhibition in the city to discuss family matters. Mkandla rose to fame when he scooped the “Two Dimensional” visual arts award for his piece “The Musician.”

“I am wrapping up logistics on the exhibition. It will be held at the Rainbow Cinema. We have chosen September to target school children,” he said. He chose the family matters theme because of the widespread domestic problems in the city.

“I hope to use the exhibition to counsel families on the amicable solutions that they can use to solve some of the problems they encounter in their lives,” he said. “The catch them young concept is very crucial. If the children could be taught how to desist from domestic problems at a tender age, it will result in a more peaceful Zimbabwe in future,” said Mkandla.
