BUZ president, Addison Chiware, recently revealed that the union had already been in touch with the 22-year-old, who has expressed interest in playing for his country of birth.
“We have many other Zimbabweans playing abroad, but while some have expressed their desire to play for the country, we have not been able to bring them here for matches because of affordability,” said Chiware.
“However, Mavunga seems really eager to come and play and the association is still trying to bring him so that the technical team can have a look at him. Should we succeed, the deal would only be for international matches as he has to also fulfil his games there.”
Mavunga also confirmed that he would like to play for Zimbabwe.
“I am not sure what the future holds. I would have to learn more about it and that would be probably before I come to visit next year in June,” said the Angelico Biella star player.
The Mutare-born Mavunga attended Blakiston School in Harare. He began his career at the age of 15, when he was already living in Ohio. Thirteen years on, he has made a name for himself and has attracted interest from within the US and in Europe.
He appears to be one of the NBA’s top prospects and is currently being chased by teams such as Indiana Pacers and New York Knicks.
