Corruption probe

The Local Government ministry’s probe of council operations amid reports of massive corruption in the procurement of water chemicals is going ahead, without the blessing of Mayor Shadreck Tobaiwa.

Corruption allegations saw Finance Director Albert Zingwe being dismissed last year. Acting Finance Director, Morrison Mutema confirmed the development, but board members are still unknown.

“They (the ministry of Local Government) never wrote to me. But what I gathered is that the letters were directed to the Town Clerk (Ngwena Musara) and to the District Administration offices. So whatever they are doing is outside my authority,” said the mayor.

Sources at Town House told The Zimbabwean that heads were likely roll because evidence had been gathered detailing how tender processes were being flouted in the procurement of water chemicals.
