Eye witnesses told The Zimbabwean that the now deceased posh vehicle driver- Elson Manyatera, a male adult aged 32, was travelling from Gweru in the Kwekwe direction. When he reached the 230 Km peg along the Harare-Gweru road, the ZUPCO bus approached from the opposite direction.
“The bus swerved and hit the vehicle Manyetera and his colleagues were travelling in and I think it is the ZUPCO driver who was wrong because the young man was in the overtaking lane,” an eye witness who refused to be named told The Zimbabwean on the chilly scene of the accident.
When The Zimbabwean news crew arrived at the scene at around 2100hrs, the deceased were all trapped in the wreckage with blood oozing from the ear of one of them. The victim, a lady, had her body mutilated with one hand and the head lying separately.
The small vehicle, registration number APB 1458, black in colour, was swashed into the front part of the bus, registration number ACE 4210 which was being driven by Jokonia Mafukidze. Noone from the bus was injured.
In June 10 people perished while 15 others were seriously injured near the same spot in another accident which involved a ZUPCO bus. The bus had rammed into a stationery haulage truck.
