Karuru left out of Angola tie

Belgium based Ovidy Karuru has been left out of the Warriors’ October 14 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Angola in Luanda after national coach Rahman Gumbo on Wednesday announced his 24 member provisional squad for the game.

But talismanic striker Knowledge Musona makes a return to the fold after missing the first leg in Harare which the Warriors prevailed 3-1.

Team manger Nyika Chifamba, confirmed that Musona will be coming as they have spoken to the player who has agreed to come to play adding that they have already communicated with his German club Ausburg for the player’s release.

Chifamba said they have omitted Karuru as he needs more time with his new club Oud Heverlee Leuven but observers have questioned whether four days with the Warriors was going to make any difference at the Belgian Premiership club.

In a mixture of youth and experience Gumbo has recalled Bidvest Wits’ Tinashe Nengomasha who joins the likes of Esrom Nyandoro, Vusa Nyoni, Noel Kaseke, Onismo Bhasera, Takesure Chinyama and Quincy Antipas in giving experience to the squad.

Also in the team is man of the moment, Khama Billiart of Ajax Cape Town who is likely to partner Musona in a striking role with the likes of Archieford Guru who scored against Angola in the first leg at Rufaro Stadium, Denver Mukamba, Oscar Machapa, and Arnold Chaka also in the squad.

Captain Tapuwa Kapini has been ruled out of the team through injury and in his place will be Highlanders Zimbabwean youth international Ariel Sibanda.

Zimbabwe are leading 3-1 from the first leg and need to avoid a loss of 2-0 or more to qualify for the Nations Cup finals in South Africa in January.
