Chimombe is one of the 12 councillors fired by the Morgan Tsvangirai led party last month on graft cases, after an internal probe. However, Chimombe told The Zimbabwean that the committee did not get his side of the story.
“I was never given the right of response by that committee,” he said. He added that he would formally challenge his expulsion after official communication from the party, saying he had learnt of his firing through the press.
“I know that I am clean. Hopefully, the party will get my side of the story and revisit its decision,” said the mayor.
However, MDC-T Secretary for Local Government, Sesil Zvidzai, maintained that the decision to fire Chimombe went through several organs of the party which should have opposed his expulsion if there was no evidence to support it.
Zvidzai, who is also the city’s former Executive Mayor, also stated that Chimombe’s case and those of others affected countrywide is now a closed chapter.Post published in: News
