Addressing a rally to drum up support for the forthcoming referendum at Chinyika business centre in Gutu, MDC Masvingo provincial chairman, Wilstaff Sitemere, pleaded for support, saying the new draft constitution was a better devil than the current Lancaster House charter.
The recently completed draft charter is mired in controversy as Zanu (PF), which had initially endorsed it, later rejected it, insisting on redrafting some of the provisions.
The party has since come up with its own version of the draft, but the other parties to the Global Political Agreement, MDC-T and MDC-N, insist there will be no negotiations.
“This document contains the views of the people; it has what you want and gave to the outreach teams that visited you. No political party has the right to reject or alter your views, so we are saying vote yes for what you demanded to be governed by,” he said.
He added that the amendments made by Zanu (PF) to try and change the demands of the people of Zimbabwe were a “disgrace” and “unwarranted”.Post published in: News
