Makondo was given $2,246.84, two empty containers and a pair of shoes for his service to the company. Bata Shoe Company Zimbabwe limited instructed Old Mutual through the Bata Zimbabwe Pension Fund to pay the amount into his CABS Account as his retirement benefit.
“During my engagement with the company, I was accorded pinnacle achiever for four years of which I was awarded certificates of good work. This is highest appreciation the company denotes to its hard working employees. Now my plight is after working for so many years I am sent away with benefits of two drums and a pair of shoes and such little money,” said Makondo.
Makondo has vowed to fight and has already appealed to the head of Bata Company International in Canada.
