The armed forces on Saturday 21 september unleashed physical torture coupled with psychological trauma which continues to promote a culture of fear and intimidation. As a signatory to the GPA the MDC has a policy of not applying violence in any setup of political engagement and would set it on record that it will never be violent.
However it remains nerve catching to note that the Commander in Chief of the Defence Forces’ recent preaching about an end to politically motivated violence is cheap politicking. Professionalism should be the first requirement of the operation of the uniformed forces and therefore they should not work as pawns of a certain political party. It is on record that Mutoko is one of the prime areas where violence took place during the 27 June 2008 presidential elections . It is quite astounding to have armed soldiers attacking unarmed civilians for a simple reason of supporting a certain leader or political party.
It is now clear that Professor Welshman Ncube and the green machine are winning many people’s hearts and have a big chance of winning the next election a development that is not going down well with other ever dilapidating political parties such as Zanu pf who now resolve to frustrate the electorate through unorthodox means.
About 6 party members were hospitalised after the attack making all the calls for national healing empty since some people are continuing to injure a country which is in a healing process. As a party we will not sit down until these overzealous soldiers and architects of disorder who went berserk terrorising our supporters in Mutoko last week and all those who might do it in the future are caught by the long arm of the law and brought to book.
