A Swaziland court on Monday sentenced South African, Amos Mbedzi, to 85 years in prison for high treason and terrorism. He was found guilty of a botched bomb attack against King Mswati III, but will effectively serve a total of 26 years. Mbedzi was convicted of planning to plant the bomb at a bridge of the Lozitha Royal Palace in the commercial hub Manzini in 2008.
Botswana, Nigeria oil deal
A Botswana fuel importing firm has inked memoranda of understanding with Nigerian oil majors, with a view to importing seaborne oil from Lagos. The development is set to transform the local petroleum sector.
Executives from Spring Well Trade and Investment challenged Trade and Industry Minister, Dorcas Makgato-Malesu to fast-track the proposed P70 million dry port at Walvis Bay in Namibia and lay the necessary policy framework.
Angola regulates sex trade
Angola’s Common Council has passed a 20-page decree to regulate the sex trade. Kim Shoup, Angola’s City Attorney, said constitutionally cities cannot keep someone from opening a “sexually oriented business” like a strip club, but the law would regulate things like licensing, background checks on potential employees, operation hours, zoning, and implementing the “no touch rule” between employees and customers.
Sata appreciates church
Zambia’s President Michael Sata said recently that his government would not take a confrontational stance with the Church as it appreciates and recognises the role it plays in the development of that country. He said the Church had been a worthy social partner for the majority of the population, adding that it had participated fully in the political development of the country.
Hawks probe Malema

President, Julius Malema faced imminent arrest on corruption at the beginning of the week. Crack police arm, The Hawks declined to comment on the progress of their investigations on Tuesday, but reports were that Malema could be arrested any time during this week or next. A local radio station said the Hawks had completed investigations into Malema’s Ratanang Family Trust, taxes, allegations of tender fraud and inciting violence.
