Revelations at MDC-T MP’s trial

Revelations made by Mkoba MP Amos Chibaya during his trial left the court stunned after it emerged police arrested him when he had visited the station to make a report.

Chibaya, who is jointly accused of public violence together with youth leader Livingstone Chiminya, made the revelations while presenting his evidence before magistrate Mildred Mutuvi.

The maverick politician told the court that he went to Gweru Central Police station in October last year to report a case in which his official vehicle had been damaged by Zanu (PF) youths at Guinea Fowl.

“I was in fact shocked when before I had even finished detailing the report, a senior officer ordered his juniors to arrest me saying in fact it was me who was guilty of the violence,” said Chibaya, who is also the MDC-T’s national executive secretary for water.

The legislator also accused the police of orchestrating an organised plot to destroy his political career by giving the public a violent impression of him.

It is the state’s case that Chibaya, Chiminya and other MDC-T youths caused violence at Tandanani bar at Guinea Fowl, about 10 Kilometers from Gweru last October. However, the two are denying the charge saying they only visited the place to buy refreshments on their way home from a rally in Mberengwa.
